We’ve all hit our heads a time or two without future problems. However, brain injuries are common and serious. You can’t prevent all injuries but here are a few ways to lessen chances of a brain injury:

Always use a seat belt and ensure children and using age and size appropriate car and booster seats.

Wear a helmet for any activity where you have a higher risk of falling. Helmets can reduce the risk of serious injury or skull fracture but may not prevent concussions.

Use gates on stairs to prevent serious falls in infants and toddlers and hand rails for adults.

Finally, if you or a loved one has fallen and hit their head, see a doctor. Brain injuries may not have immediate symptoms.
