Pediatric ear, nose and throat disorders remain among the primary reasons why children visit a physical. Ear aches and choking hazards can cause a lot of stress, so here are a few ways to keep your child healthy and safe:

Recognize signs of an ear infection. Symptoms include tugging of the ears, fussiness, trouble sleeping, fever and clumsiness.

Talk to your child’s doctor before flying to see if there are ways to prevent ear pain since flying can cause ear pressure and pain.

To prevent choking hazards, cut food, especially hard food, into pieces no more than half an inch.

Finally, don’t let your child walk while eating and crawl on the floor to see what your child might find that can be a choking hazard.
