Independent, transitional,
and supported housing
Kennebec Behavioral Health offers a wide range of community
housing options for persons with mental illness. Our Independent
Housing Program offers Independent Housing units, which provide
income-eligible consumers with housing and access to Kennebec
Behavioral Health programs and services and other community
services. The Independent Housing Program also manages two
rental subsidy programs for eligible individuals. The
subsidy programs pay a monthly rent subsidy to local landlords
for eligible consumers helping to reduce their housing costs.
Kennebec Behavioral Health also offers Transitional Housing
for homeless individuals who need additional skills and supports
to live independently in the community. This housing
option helps people who need to improve skills and who may
need additional supports to access resources and eventually
obtain and remain in permanent housing.
Kennebec Behavioral Health owns and operates Residential
Supported Housing Programs in Augusta and Skowhegan. These
are apartment buildings with units reserved for people with
mental illness who need intensive supports to maintain community
tenure. These are independent apartments where tenants can
receive rental subsidy and necessary skills development and
supports for successful community living.
All housing options offer safe, decent, affordable housing
and either on-site services or community support services
necessary for people with severe mental illness to live as
independently as possible. All services are delivered according
to the client’s assessed needs, wants and preferences.
About our expanded services
Kennebec Behavioral Health’s Supported Housing Program
has reorganized and restructured to better meet client and
community need. This restructuring has allowed KBH to expand
24/7 Residential Supported Housing services in both Augusta
and Skowhegan over the last six months for some of the region’s
most challenging clients. The restructuring efforts leave
the program well-positioned to continue to expand these critical
services. The changes also ready us to provide alternative
services and supports in new and innovative ways, especially
for those individuals who need more supports in the community
to be successful than just Community Integration Services.
These expanded services focus on offering medication assistance,
targeted skills development and 24/7 access to staff support
if needed.
Our initial restructuring efforts included the addition of a full-time RN to
the program to better manage the increasing medical needs of our existing and
newest referrals. With the ever-increasing medical needs of our client population
and the complexity and number of medications that our staff must administer to
clients, this addition helps us keep on top of critical client needs.
We also added a clinical behavioralist position to our team to help support staff
as the clinical acuity of our client population continues to increase. This makes
possible the comprehensive clinical assessments of all new referrals and existing
clients. Kennebec Behavioral Health is seen as a leader in developing services
and programs to meet the needs of particularly challenging individuals. We stand
ready to grow and develop these services wherever they are needed.
This realignment has allowed us to offer more residential services and develop
a new and much needed alternative to address a service gap in our community. |
