Kennebec Behavioral Health was founded as Kennebec Valley Mental Health Center in 1960, and has grown to be one of the most comprehensive community mental health centers in the State of Maine. With 14 sites in Central Maine, and programs reaching to the coast, KBH now includes the following programs and services:

    The Access Center provides centralized access to services at all of our locations and is the first point of entry for clients seeking services at Kennebec Behavioral Health.  Our Intake Specialists are skilled at matching a client’s presenting issues with the skill sets and credentials of our practicing clinicians and program services. 

    The Access Center can be reached toll-free at 1-888-322-2136.

    We accept referrals from a variety of sources, including Primary Care Physicians, service agencies and individual providers, educators, state and municipal agencies, hospitals, and self-referrals.  Local providers are encouraged to use the KBH Documents Link.  Self-referrals can call our Access Center to speak with an intake specialist about our programs or to access services at Kennebec Behavioral Health. Contacts are listed here.

    Intake Specialists are also educated in local resources and can assist with finding services offered outside of Kennebec Behavioral Health, including transportation, shelters, public welfare, and other community based services in and around central Maine.

    Maintaining the external waitlist
    Obtaining releases of information and guardianship verification
    Verification of Insurance

    Kennebec Behavioral Health accepts MaineCare (Medicaid), Medicare, and private insurance. The Access Center can provide information about financial assistance and other available community services.
