Wednesday Wellness: Preparing for Summer

Summer sounds great in theory, but for many kids it causes anxiety, boredom or loneliness. So what can parents do to help their kids stay happy and healthy during summer?

 

Plan ahead to proactively deal with anxieties associated with summer vacation. Maintain certain routines and schedule different activities to try.

 

Let them sleep. Sleep is important to everyone’s health so look into how much your child should get based on age.

 

Get them outdoors. Try to find ways to keep your child away from the TV to improve their physical and social health. Look into day camps, summer sport teams or simply go for a bike ride.

 

Finally, identify what makes them anxious or depressed. Talk to your child and if necessary, seek help from a doctor.
