Wednesday Wellness: Children & Depression

Childhood depression isn’t just occasional melancholy but is a serious problem that impacts every aspect of a child’s life. However, as a concerned parent or guardian, there are many ways to help. Here are some tips:


Promote basic good health by limiting screen time and encouraging physical activity to help develop positive connections with others.


Provide safety and security by talking about bullying which is a major cause of mental health problems and also look for grief or loss issues.


Help your child learn thinking and coping skills by talking and listening to your child with love and support. Help your child learn to describe their feelings.


Finally, learn the numbers for your child’s doctor, mental health provider and a local mental health crisis response team.
