Wednesday Wellness: Trauma Awareness

Physical traumas like falls are the most common cause of injuries in the U.S. Regardless of age, risks are always present that can cause mild to serious injury. Here are a few tips to prevent trauma:


Wear protective gear for sports and when biking and make sure it fits properly. Try braces and pads if already injured.


Stay hydrated to prevent heat related injuries and dizziness that can cause falls.


In your home, secure rugs with non-skid tape, use slip resistant mats where needed, keep floors clear and install extra lighting or handrails where necessary.


Finally, if you feel a sharp, stabbing pain when trying to put weight on a part of your body, stop what you are doing and ask for help.
