Veterans Outreach Intern
Kennebec Behavioral Health is currently seeking a Bachelor’s level Veterans Outreach intern. Applicants must be enrolled in or have completed an undergraduate Social Services related program.
The principal role of the Veterans Outreach Intern is to increase access to care for Veterans, Service Members and their families who may experience mental illness, trauma, and emotional or behavioral problems. The intern will assess consumer needs through clinical phone screenings and on a walk-in basis. The Veterans Outreach Intern will then coordinate a continuum of community-based prevention, education, treatment, and rehabilitation services. The intern can assist consumers in seeking services such as financial assistance and in enrolling in state or federal programs that will enable them to access services. In some cases, we can also assist Veterans and family members with obtaining copies of military service records, replacement awards, and in getting connected with nationally organized support services.
Under general supervision, the intern will assist the Access Center who are responsible for working with consumers to assure timely and appropriate access to agency services. The intern will also work closely and develop relationships with community organizations such as the Betsy Ann Ross House of Hope and the Maine Military Community Network.
