Rental Services, Transitional &Supported Housing

Rental Services Program

Kennebec Behavioral Health offers a wide range of community housing options for persons with mental illness. Our Rental Services Program offers independent housing units, which provide income-eligible consumers with housing and access to KBH programs and services and other community services. The Rental Services Program manages two rental subsidy programs for eligible individuals. The subsidy programs pay a monthly rent subsidy to local landlords for eligible consumers helping to reduce their housing costs.

Transitional Housing

KBH also offers Transitional Housing for homeless individuals who need additional skills and supports to live independently in the community.  This option helps people who need to improve skills and who may need additional supports to access resources and eventually obtain and remain in permanent housing.

Supported Housing

Kennebec Behavioral Health operates Residential Supported Housing Programs in Augusta, Waterville and Skowhegan.  These are apartment buildings with units reserved for people with mental illness who need intensive supports to maintain community tenure. These are independent apartments where tenants can receive rental subsidy and necessary skills development and supports for successful community living.

All housing options offer safe, decent, affordable housing and either on-site services or community support services necessary for people with severe mental illness to live as independently as possible.   All services are delivered according to the client’s assessed needs, wants and preferences.

Our Supported Housing Program has expanded 24/7 Residential Supported Housing services in Augusta and Skowhegan for some of the region’s most challenging clients. The changes allow us to provide alternative services and supports in new and innovative ways, especially for those individuals who need more supports in the community to be successful than Community Integration Services. These expanded services focus on offering medication assistance, targeted skills development and 24/7 access to staff support if needed.
